What is Pecora Nera® fabric?
Pecora Nera® fabric by Loro Piana® is made from naturally dark wool grown in New Zealand. The color comes from the fiber itself, not from dye.
That changes how the fabric looks, feels, and ages.
Most wool is dyed to create uniform color. Pecora Nera® isn’t. The natural shades; brown, taupe, deep neutrals, create depth and variation that dyed fabrics can’t replicate.
This is undyed wool at its highest level.
Why Loro Piana Pecora Nera® fabric is different
Loro Piana built Pecora Nera® blends to go beyond standard wool performance:
- Wool provides structure and resilience
- Silk adds fluidity and softness
- Linen introduces breathability and texture
The result is a wool silk linen fabric that drapes cleanly, moves easily, and holds its character over time.
No excess. No correction. Just material doing what it’s supposed to do.
Our Pecora Nera® trousers: two fabric approaches
At Wolf vs Goat, we developed trousers using two variations of Loro Piana Pecora Nera® fabric:
-
76% Virgin Wool / 12% Silk / 12% Linen
Denser. More structure. Stronger drape. -
52% Virgin Wool / 28% Silk / 20% Linen
Lighter. More open. Built for movement and air.
Same origin. Different expression.
Both are made in Italy, built in small runs, and finished for proper tailoring.
Why Pecora Nera® fabric is no longer available
Loro Piana is no longer selling Pecora Nera® fabric to third-party brands.
As demand and recognition grew, the fabric moved in-house, reserved for their own collections. This is what happens when a material reaches a certain level of identity and value.
Which means:
- No new supply to independent brands
- No restocks once fabric is gone
- No direct replacement in the market
Why Wolf vs Goat still has Pecora Nera®
We secured these fabrics before that shift.
That puts our Pecora Nera® trousers in a very small group of independent garments made with this material—and likely among the last.
Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Not marketing. Just supply.
Natural wool. No dye. No shortcuts.
Pecora Nera® represents something rare:
- Natural color wool fabric
- No artificial dyeing process
- Full expression of the fiber
It’s what happens when the raw material is strong enough to stand on its own.
We’ll continue working with Loro Piana fabrics.
Pecora Nera® just happens to be one of the last times this particular door was open.
